Balakanda
Seventy Sixth Sarga

Rama who was silent out of respect for his father now spoke after hearing the words of Parasurama, the son of Jamadagni.

" O Brahman ! O Bhargava ! I am aware of what you have done to redeem your father, congratulations. O Bhargava ! You have belittled me saying that I am powerless and incapable. Now you can see my valor".

Saying so valiant Rama effortlessly snatched the bow from Parasurama's hands Then stringing the bow with an arrow , the angry Rama spoke to the son of Jamadagni again . "You are a Brahmin and related to Viswamitra so you are to be respected .Oh Pasarurama so I cannot take your life. I will destroy your ability to move or the unparalleled Lokas you acquired with the power of your penance. You may choose. This is Vaishnava arrow. It is Devine. It can destroy the enemies camps. It will destroy the power and arrogance too. It does not fail".

Suras along with Rishis following Brahma gathered there to witness SriRama carrying the best of arms. Gandharvas, along with Siddhas Charanas Kinnaras Yakshas Rakshasas and Nagas too came to see that wonderful spectacle. With Rama carrying those best of arms the world came to stand still. Parasurama having lost his powers was looking at Rama in awe.

With his power declining and his prowess destroyed, Parasurama slowly addressed Rama who has eyes resembling lotus. " In those earlier times when I gave away the earth to Kasyapa, he told me that I should no longer stay there. Hence to abide by my Gurus words I will not stay on this land. Oh Kakustha! I have taken a vow not to stay in the land of Kasyapa . O Rama ! O Hero ! Do not destroy my ability to move. I will go to the Mahendra Mountain very quickly with the speed of mind. Oh Rama ! With your arrow destroy the unparalleled lokas acquired by me with my penance, do not delay. Oh Tormentor of foes ! From the way you handled the celestial bow I know you are none other than the Supreme one who killed the demon Madhu. You are the imperishable lord of Devas. The legions of Suras have assembled to see you. You have unparalleled power and you are capable of wonderful deeds. Oh Kakutstha to be defeated by you the leader of all the three worlds is nothing to be ashamed of . O Rama ! you let go the arrow which has no answer. After the release of that arrow I will go to Mahendra Mountains."

After Parasurama said so then Rama son of Dasaratha let go that Devine arrow. With all the power of his penance destroyed by Rama's arrow Parasurama then left for that best of mountains called the Mahendra mountain. Then the darkness that enveloped all directions vanished. Devas along with Rishis praised Rama. Parasurama too having made obeisance to Rama and going around him as a mark of respect went his way.

Thus the seventy sixth Sarga comes to an end .
